I have learned a lot from both my international
colleagues and the international websites that I have visited. Three specific things
that I have learned are:
The values that children learn when they are young, that help them to be
positive contributing members of society are more important than any specific
academic skill (UNESCO)
Emphasis on social emotional development continues
to be best practice internationally (Gail and Estephania)
Free preschool for all four year old children is a
recognized part of the education system
(Gail and Estephania)
One goal that I have related to international awareness
of issues and trends and the spirit of relationship with my professional
colleagues from other countries is to keep in touch. I believe that many
countries are ahead of us in terms of understanding how to support
social/emotional development and prepare children to be successful in school.
By keeping in touch and learning from professionals in other countries I can learn
from them and use their wisdom to guide my decisions in my work as a
Professional Development Specialist and an advocate for children.
I could not agree with you more about the importance of teaching children good moral values. I believe this is the foundation that all other learning should be built upon.
ReplyDeleteI have really enjoyed learning from and working with you this semester. I hope our paths cross again in future courses. :)
I agree with you! I was not able to establish an international contact but my goal is to continue to try to establish this contact so that I can learn from other early childhood professionals and use them as a guide.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to working with you in the future and wish you nothing but the best!

ReplyDeleteCarolyn I think your 3 consequences are really interesting. You are certainly telling the truth about keeping in contact with your Professional contact- not just because of a certain topic but overall learning. I was unable to get a contact in another country for myself (although I really tried hard:) but I wish I had. Conversing ideas and strategies goes far beyond state lines and even within the U.S. this is global. We can help each other by just making the effort, one step at a time. Great post and Good luck Carolyn!

Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed learning from you and your international experiences and insights over the last couple of weeks. Your goal is very similar to mines. I too intend to stay abreast of international issues and trends. I think it is important as educators to be aware of education issues on a worldwide scale. Good luck in your educational goals. -Shavonne Hemingway
